What is CTET and Why It Matters?
CTET, or the Central Teacher Eligibility Test, is a nationally conducted examination by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Recognized as a crucial qualification, CTET is mandatory for individuals aspiring to be appointed as teachers in schools covered by the RTE Act, 2009. The primary objective is to uphold national standards and ensure the benchmark of teacher quality during the recruitment process.
Who Can Apply for CTET and What Are the Eligibility Criteria?
Any individual meeting the minimum qualifications set by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) can apply for CTET. The qualifications vary based on the teaching level (primary or elementary) and subject. Applicants are advised to check the NCTE website (https://ncte.gov.in) for eligibility details. Additionally, candidates must meet the criteria outlined by the respective State Government or recruiting agency where the school is located.
How to Apply for CTET and What is the Examination Mode?
Applying for CTET is an online process accessible through the official website (https://ctet.nic.in). Candidates need to complete the online application, upload scanned images of their latest photograph and signature, pay the examination fee through debit/credit card or net banking, and print the confirmation page for future reference. The examination is conducted offline, using a pen-and-paper approach. Candidates mark their answers on the provided OMR sheet
Understanding the Structure and Content of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET):
All questions in CTET are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), where each question has four options, and you choose the most appropriate one. Each question carries one mark, and there is no negative marking. CTET has two papers:
(i) Paper I is for those aspiring to teach classes I to V.
(ii) Paper II is for those aiming to teach classes VI to VIII.
Note: If you want to become a teacher for both levels (classes I to V and classes VI to VIII), you need to participate in both Paper I and Paper II.
VALIDITY PERIOD OF CTET CERTIFICATE:
The CTET qualifying certificate holds a lifetime validity for all categories, offering flexibility with unlimited attempts for certification acquisition. Individuals who have successfully passed CTET are also welcome to reappear to enhance their scores.
The passing marks of all the categories(general, OBC, SC/ST) for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) are as follows:
Passing Criteria for Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) across Various Categories:
- For General/OBC (NCL): Achieve 60% or above to qualify.
- For SC/ST/Differently Abled Person: Attain a minimum of 55% to pass.
- For Other Backward Classes (OBCs): Refer to the criteria specified by the Government of India or the respective States/UTs where CTET is applicable.
